Two to Nothing
by Lillian Morrison
Catcher, the ball caller
knees bent, squatting;
Pitcher, a slider guider
peering, plotting.
First up, a pop up (5)
hung his head, spit.
Next up, a bloop looper
got a cheap hit.
Then came a bunt dumper
out at first base (10)
(a runner with pep
but out by a step).
Then came the power,
the big number one
slammed a slow pitch (15)
for a towering home run.
